PostHeaderIcon Window Film Privacy Keeps Your Family Safe

I try to regularly walk our family dog around the neighborhood.  Many times it happens to be dark by the time I get around to it.  One thing I’m really surprised about is the amount of homes that I can see into without any restriction.  No curtain privacy, no blind privacy,  no window film privacy….in fact nothing at all.  Most interestingly, I noticed that I tend to walk slower by such houses because I’m inevitably curious about what is going on inside.  Now I don’t linger…I just walk by, but it is amazing to me how drawn I am to what is happening in this complete strangers house.

While my nosiness is quite innocent and really is just due to my mere curiosity more than anything else, I  started to realize that not everyone has similar intentions.   At night, when a house is lit up, a not so well intentioned person could literally spend 10 or 20 minutes just observing your routines. Even sitting in a car and watching from across the street is quite possible when you have nothing covering your windows.

window-film-privacy-view-at-nightI don’t mean  to scare anyone, but the fact of the matter is that you must consider protecting your family’s privacy and security.  One way I’ve already talked about that is by using traditional window treatments such as curtains or blinds.  However, not all windows are easily fitted to such window coverings.   Window film can provide a great alternative for added protection.

Window film privacy has been literally around us for a long time, but most of us don’t pay attention to it.  Think about your work office.  Do you have glass entry doors that are frosted?  Are there receptionist areas, or management offices that have this type of privacy glass?  Many times professional installers just use a specialized frosted window film on such offices.  This is because real frosted or etched glass windows can be extremely expensive.

The good news, is that privacy window film is available to home owners.  This relatively inexpensive window film can be applied in a few short hours and can block the views of ill intentioned snoopers without having to worry about fitting blinds or curtains.   I’ve seen great success utilizing these window films for windows that face side streets or alleys,  front entrance door sidelights, and even bathroom windows.

One thing I might mention about bathrooms, is that many people might say “My bathroom or shower is on the second floor of my home.  No one is going to see inside from the ground”.   While that may indeed be true, consider this, if you live in a recently built home, you’ll probably notice that many times the builders put the houses very close together and  that they are often very similar in heights.

Take a look around outside from each one of your own windows…especially at night.  Look at all your neighbor’s homes.  I’d be willing to wager that from an upstairs vantage point, you’ll be able to see into one of your neighbors living rooms, bedrooms, or bathrooms pretty easily.  Just make note of that next time you jump into your shower.  In other words, put your self in your neighbors shoes and cover that window! No doubt, they’re going to look if they can :-)

window-film-privacyThis may seem like a small matter, and I mostly agree.  However I also try to take a cautious stance when I can and I feel that the best course of action would be to cover up your windows at night with something.   Whether you choose to use window film for privacy is a personal choice.  Please do something though.  Be safe and take your family’s privacy seriously.
