PostHeaderIcon Frosted Window Film Privacy- From the Office To Your Home

I was busy this week running some errands and stopped in to visit a friend at her workplace.   Now I’ll apologize for what is probably a really geeky post, but I have to say I was very excited when she escorted me to the floor her office was located on.  It was like I was in frosted window film heaven.  LOL.

The company that she works for has a computer operations center that is basically an area where people monitor computer systems that run all day and all night.   There are TV’s and computer monitors  and because it is in a somewhat secure area, they have frosted window film to preserve the privacy of the operators and screens.  You can see the top edge of the window film in the picture below.  I apologize for the bad picture, but I had to take it on the sneak as I didn’t want my friend to get into any kind of trouble.

In another area of the building, they had offices where managers sit.  These were entire cubes that had glass windows that were covered in frosting material so it could provide a private area to discuss matters with their employees.   I really liked these cubes as the window film was translucent enough to be able to see movement on the opposite side of the wall.  However it did provide enough obscurity where someone could have a private conversation without fear of being noticed of what was going on.   Here is the other picture of the cubes.  This shot isn’t much better, but hopefully you can see what I’m talking about with these photos.

After my visit, it got me thinking of ways to incorporate this kind of window film into your own home.  Normally I like to write about stained glass window film, but I figured this could start some good ideas for rooms inside your home that may need a bit of privacy with frosted film.  One idea is actually something I’ve covered before and it is related to shower door film.  In newer homes, many shower doors are made with clear glass.  If you are a little bit squeamish about the thought of your significant other (or worse yet..your kids) walking in on you while you’re taking a shower, it might be a good idea to find a retailer that sells this type of window film and take a shot at installing it.  Ususally, steam and heat from the shower won’t affect the film as long as its installed properly.

Another idea, might be if you own a home with a den or any type of room with glass french doors.  This might work especially well for an at home office or extra guest room.  The frosted glass gives you the nice look, but it doesn’t necessarily detract from surrounding decor.  I particularly like the fact that when buying film for windows, you can save a lot of money vs. etched glass windows.   Etched glass is expensive, and basically accomplishes the same purpose.
